Volunteer Opportunities

JCHT currently maintains and preserves eight local natural areas for the enjoyment and education of the public. These areas are managed in part by JCHT Property Stewardship Specialist, volunteer property managers, volunteers and community organizations. Volunteers play a critical role in maintaining and preserving our properties.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks on JCHT properties including: prairie burns; invasive species removal; trash clean up; trail maintenance; planting native species and harvesting prairie seed, to name a few. We have various workdays throughout the year to hopefully provide everyone the opportunity to volunteer on a JCHT property. JCHT also needs help in the office with mailing, publications, community relations and events. If you wish to volunteer we can find something for you, no matter what your experience. These areas are protected for you to get out and enjoy them.

Please take a look at our calendar of events and workdays to see when you could help out. If you are part of a group or organization and would like to schedule a volunteer day that would work better for you, feel free to contact us.

For office work contact Tammy Richardson at info@jcht.org or call 319-338-7030.

For workdays on the properties contact Jake Hart at jake@jcht.org or call 608-695-7799.

Notes from Jake

City High seniors helped pulled garlic mustard on Pappy Dickens Preserve and Shimek Ravine. They did a great job and pulled over 30 bags.
